NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A new blueprint for saving coastal Louisiana from sea level rise, hurricanes and erosion will be unveiled Thursday.
The document will lay out strategies and challenges facing Louisiana as it struggles to deal with a host of problems along its coast. The new plan is a five-year update to a blueprint first
published in 2007. The document needs to be approved by the
Louisiana Legislature.
The state will hold three public meetings on the new plan, which will include a list of projects state officials believe will help stem coastal land loss.
Louisiana has lost 1,900 square miles of coast since the 1930s and it faces losses much more land unless measures are taken to stop the loss.
