BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - With the school year coming up and maybe a strong desire to buy almost anything, Louisiana is having an annual sales tax holiday on Friday and Saturday.
The annual event means that the first $2,500 of the purchase price of eligible items is exempt from the 4 percent state sales tax. The law defines eligible items as "individual items of tangible personal property for non-business use."
Local sales taxes still must be paid.
What's not covered? Any vehicle subject to tax and title, restaurant and to-go meals and such services as hotel rooms, printing and telecommunications services, leases or rentals, repairs to personal property and tickets for athletic and other amusement and recreational events.
