Press Release from Simone Champagne announcing she will not run again for office:
"After years of dedicated service to the people of Iberia and Vermilion Parishes, Simone Champagne is announcing she will not run for re-election in October of 2015. Champagne intends to continue serving the people of coastal Louisiana long after her retirement. 'You do not have to have a title to be a leader. I can still be involved in serving the people in the community and continue the good work of my constituents long after my retirement,' said Champagne. By making the announcement at this time it gives others who may be interested in the District 49 seat time to prepare.
Through her compassionate service Champagne has benefited the economy by attracting new business development through tax cuts, lower tax rates and promoting the best use of taxpayers' dollars. She diligently fought against the oil and gas moratorium that damaged industries throughout Louisiana and continued working to restore deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. She has been an advocate of developing means to protect the coast, and its residents, from future storms.
Not only has Champagne produced positive results for small businesses, industries and coastal conservation, her support for veterans has been a crucial part of her service to the people.
Although Champagne is a still a proud resident of Jeanerette, in anticipation of their future retirement, she recently purchased a second home. 'Jeanerette is and will always be my home. All my children are grown and we wanted to downsize,' said Champagne."
