State police have now provided more information regarding the police-involved shooting last night in Breaux Bridge. Investigators say 17-year-old Darnesha Harris drove into a police unit responding to a disturbance in the 900 block of Landry Street. They say Harris then shifted into reverse and hit a parked car in the roadway before backing going through a ditch and hitting a bystander and another car. Troopers say a responding officer fired shots, striking Harris. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died. The bystander suffered moderate injuries.
Troopers say the case is still under investigation. They add once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
