State police identify victims outside of Acadiana; ask others to come forward

State Police are asking possible victims of a man charged with sex crimes to come forward. Eric Manuel, 22, is accused of posing as a teenage girl, befriending boys, and enticing them to engage in sexual talks and encouraging them to send naked pictures of themselves. According to authorities, Manuel's alias was Emily Brant. "During the last two weeks, Louisiana State Police detectives have been working with the Kaplan Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, St. Landry Sheriff's Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify potential victims of 22-year-old Eric Manuel of Lafayette," Trooper Stephen Hammons said.

Kaplan Police initially investigated Manuel and charged him with three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of computed aided solicitation of a minor. State Police investigated further. "After obtaining a search warrant for Manuel's residence, detectives seized various multimedia devices and began searching through thousands of images depicting child pornography," Hammons said.

State Police detectives say they identified "numerous victims in the Acadiana area and around the state." "Anyone who has had contact with Manuel or his persona Emily Brant and feels like they may be a victim, is urged to contact State Police detectives at 337-262-3341," Hammons said. All victims' identities will be protected.
