DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) - State police say a 27-year-old Baton Rouge man whose body was discovered in a water-filled ditch off in Livingston Parish had been struck by a pickup Sunday.
Trooper Jared Sandifer says officers were called around 8:15 p.m. Sunday about a single-vehicle crash on Juban Road.
Sandifer says Ergin Reese III, of Denham Springs, told troopers he was driving south when he hit what he thought was a garbage can.
Sandifer says troopers and deputies searched the area to find the object that Reese said he struck, but they found nothing.
Shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, a passer-by notified authorities he had discovered a body.
Sandifer says investigators determined Devin Hammond, who was wearing dark clothing, was walking north, partially in the road when he was struck by Reese's southbound pickup.
