LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - State police have been asked to investigate a Lafayette police officer who was fired following alleged departmental policy and procedure violations.
Cpl. Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Department spokesman, says that Cpl. Oren Haydel, a 10-year veteran of the department, was fired Monday following an internal affairs investigation. Haydel has been on paid administrative leave since Nov. 10.
District Attorney Mike Harson said there are allegations of injuring public records and/or filing false reports stemming from Haydel's work in the department's Crime Scene Investigations unit.
The newspaper reports Haydel declined an interview request.
