NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The new head of Louisiana's veterans' department says figures showing long waits for appointments for new patients at U.S. veterans' hospitals in the state come as no surprise.
Secretary David LaCerte says he has experienced long waits himself as a Marine veteran.
Others weighing in on Monday's figures included Sen. Mary Landrieu, who called for a review of all federal VA facilities in Louisiana.
Sen. David Vitter said President Barack Obama and the VA need to take charge to stop the crisis. Congressman Bill Cassidy said the report further "confirms that the VA is broken and mismanaged."
