BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State health officials plan a series of news conferences around Louisiana to encourage people to get flu shots.
Medical professionals, local community leaders and officials from the state Department of Health and Hospitals will take part in the Thursday news conferences, scheduled for late morning or midday in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Luling, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Shreveport, Monroe and Slidell.
Each year, more than 200,000 Americans are hospitalized because of the flu and more than 36,000 die from influenza-related causes.
