The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office has confirmed that there has been a tragic amusement ride accident at the Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport. A four year old child has been critically injured.
Shortly after noon today, the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to the Louisiana State Fair Grounds on Greenwood Road for a report that a child was involved in an accident and was trapped. Firefighters arrived minutes later and extricated the child and provided emergency medical care. He was transported by the fire department to the LSU Medical Center where the child is listed in critical condition.
State Fire Marshal Deputies are on the scene and conducting a full investigation into the cause of this accident. The amusement ride involved has been identified as the "Twin Ring-Demolition Derby" it was manufactured by Moser's Rides in 2007. This ride was annually certified on August 10, 2011 and inspected on site at this fair location on September 21, 2011. Investigators will be evaluating the mechanical, electrical and human factors relating to this incident. At this time there has been no determinations made and the investigation will continue over the next few days before any conclusions can be expected. The Fire Marshal has ordered a cease and desist of the use of this specific ride until further notice.
Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning stated, "We are very saddened that this incident as occurred, our thoughts and prayers go out to this child and his family. Our office has experts on scene working with the Shreveport officials to determine the reason why this accident happened, we will commit our full resources to this investigation".
