A Franklin man is behind bars for allegedly stabbing a woman during an argument.
On March 12, 2013 at 10:01 pm, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of a medical emergency and disturbance. According to authorities, once deputies arrived at the residence on Mitchell Street in the Franklin area, a bleeding woman was located. The victim was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital for treatment of apparent stab wounds.
According to authorities, SMPSO Detectives identified James Washington, Jr., 65, 119 Bray Lane of Franklin as a suspect who inflicted the wounds. Detectives determined that the crime occurred at the victim's residence on Gum Point Lane. Washington and the victim were involved in a disagreement when Washington stabbed the victim repeatedly with a knife. The victim exited the residence and fled to her friend's home on Mitchell Street where a call to 911 was made.
Deputies located Washington at his residence. He was arrested for attempted second degree murder at 6:00 am on March 13, 2013. Washington was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. His bond is set at $150,000. The victim is in stable but guarded condition. The investigation is ongoing.
