COVINGTON, La. (AP) - State police say a 17-year-old girl died and two other girls were injured in a crash on Interstate 12 about one mile east of the St. Tammany-Tangipahoa parish line.
Trooper Nick Manale tells The Advocate Kristina Barnard was driving a car westbound at 8 p.m. Monday when the car began to drift left. Manale says Barnard overcorrected to the right, which caused the car to leave the highway and hit a tree.
Barnard was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Barnard's passengers, 18-year-old Sasha Stell and a 16-year-old girl, were hospitalized with moderate injuries.
Manale said the girls attended Ponchatoula High School.
