COVINGTON, La. (AP) - The St. Tammany Parish Council has approved a zoning change to allow a waste transfer station to be built on land along Interstate 12 just east of Bayou Lacombe.
The council's decision Monday night to change the zoning clears the way for IESI to build the station and to do so with the blessing of the Concerned Citizens of Lacombe. The group had been involved in a lawsuit against the parish and IESI to keep the station from being placed at the intersection of I-12 and Louisiana 434.
The Times-Picayune reports the parties had reached a settlement in June, with the agreement that IESI would build the transfer station a bit farther off of La. 434.
