St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Daily Arrest Report

According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period the Sheriff's Office responded to 32 complaints and reports the following arrests:

Joseph Lightfoot, Jr., 41, 506 Ninth Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 10:13 am for resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight, resisting an officer with force, and on a warrant from Amite County Sheriff's Office (Mississippi) for kidnapping. Detectives were notified by the Amite County Sheriff's Office that Lightfoot kidnapped a female subject earlier that morning. Amite County investigators believed that the victim may be in danger of being harmed by Lightfoot and that Lightfoot may be en route with her to his home in Franklin. A short time later, detectives received information that the victim in the kidnapping was being treated at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Upon arrival at the medical facility, detectives located the victim's vehicle that was used by Lightfoot in the kidnapping. The detective then saw Lightfoot exiting the hospital. The detective issued several verbal commands ordering Lightfoot to stop. Lightfoot ignored the commands, got into the vehicle, and fled from the parking lot. The detective followed Lightfoot onto Chatsworth Road where Lightfoot stopped the vehicle he was driving, got out, and attempted to flee on foot. The detective gave chase, following Lightfoot to an apartment complex. Other responding deputies and detectives set up a perimeter around the area. Two nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. During the coordinated search effort, the detective found Lightfoot hiding under a bed in one of the apartments. Lightfoot again refused to comply with multiple verbal commands from the detective. The detective apprehended him after a brief struggle. Lightfoot was transported to the parish jail for booking, awaiting extradition to Mississippi. A picture of Lightfoot is included.

Cotina P. Rink, 38, 3221 Jenne Drive, Morgan City, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 1:22 pm on a warrant for illegal possession of stolen things. A deputy located Rink at her residence on the warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation into mobile phone reported stolen from a store in Bayou Vista. The detective working on the case learned that the phone had been returned to the customer service desk where a female subject claimed the lost item. Through the course of the investigation, the detective determined that the female subject, later identified as Rink, was not the true owner of the mobile phone. Rink was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. Rink was later released on a $500 bond.

Christopher Haynes, 31, 4020 Fancis Street, Berwick, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 7:58 pm on three warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. A deputy transported Haynes from the Ascension Parish jail to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrants. Bond is set at $300,000.

Christina C. Paul, 23, 140 Blackwell Lane, Belle Rose, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 8:18 pm for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned from store personnel that Paul was seen on video surveillance concealing items in her purse before attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. Paul was released on a summons to appear in court on August 22,. 2014.

Narcotics Division made the following arrests:

Xavier McGhee, 23, 413 9th Street Franklin, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 3:56 pm for possession of marijuana.
Destry Savoie, Jr., 23, 1403 Sterling Road, Franklin, LA was arrested on May 12, 2014 at 3:56 pm for possession of marijuana.

While patrolling the Franklin area, detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division heard loud music playing. The music was coming from a vehicle travelling on 9th Street. Detectives also observed that the driver failed to signal a turn onto Willow Street. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Xavier, and the passenger, Savoie. During the traffic stop investigation, detectives received consent to search the vehicle and located a small bag of marijuana. Both subjects were released on a summons with a court date of August 22, 2014.
