According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, during the last 24 hour reporting period the Sheriff's Office responded to 61 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Ruthie Liz Renee Barnes, 61, 1017 St. Jude Avenue New Iberia, LA was arrested on May 22, 2013 at 5:49 am on warrants from Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office for failure to appear on the charges of failure to return a leased movable and speeding. A deputy responded to a single vehicle crash on Chitimacha Trail in Charenton. The driver, identified as Barnes, was transported to Franklin Foundation Hospital for medical treatment. During the deputy's investigation, he learned that Barnes was wanted on warrants. Following her release from the hospital, Barnes was transported to the parish jail for booking. She was later transferred to another jurisdiction.
Edwin Burke, Jr., 40, 375 Pacific Street Berwick, LA was arrested on May 22, 2013 at 2:58 pm on warrants for failure to appear on multiple traffic related offenses including driving while intoxicated, careless operation of a vehicle, and driving under suspension. A deputy on patrol observed a stranded motorist in the Berwick area and stopped to assist. After helping to push the vehicle to a safer location, the deputy conducted a warrants check on the driver. It was discovered that Burke, the driver of the vehicle, was wanted on active warrants. He was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
