Buses will be rolling throughout St. Mary Parish bringing kids to a brand new school year. 3rd graders will see an added addition to their learning process when they arrive.
"We're excited that we're beginning to deploy handheld electronic devices. We're beginning at the 3rd grade level. Teachers are going to be trained and kids will definitely see an advantage to having that interactive learning take place." Superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard said.
Along with the added learning pads, around 80 new teachers have been hired in the district.
"All of our teachers are busy getting last minute professional development. We have a very strong, concise curriculum," Dr. Aguillard said.
School lunch fees have gone up 10 cents for this year. Dr. Aguillard wants to remind parents that even though the board does provide a certain amount of supplies per student, they all need to come prepared with required supplies posted on the schools website to get the year started off right.
"We believe that we can still become an even better school district. We can still have better achievement levels. We can still have better school letter grades. We can still reach more and more children and help them to have the skills they need to be successful," Dr. Aguillard said.
