The two deputies shot and injured in Charenton over the weekend "are doing well and are in good spirits," St. Mary Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Traci Landry said. Jason Javier, 23, and Matthew Strickland 24, are recovering in hospitals in Lafayette and New Orleans.
Javier was recently recognized for his contribution in removing drunk driver from the road. Mothers Against Drunk Driving commended him for four arrests. Javier has been a St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputy for two years, and Strickland worked briefly at the sheriff's office in 2011 and rejoined in January.
