St. Mary Parish Daily Arrest Report for August 11, 2014

According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 72 hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 124 complaints and reports the following arrests:

Jason Carvalho, 37, 154 Migues Lane, Jeanerette, LA was arrested on August 7, 2014 at 10:57 am on a warrant for the following charges:
- Unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling
- Simple criminal damage to property
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Domestic abuse battery
A deputy transported Carvalho from the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrant. On June 20, 2014, deputies responded to a complaint of unauthorized use of a moveable that occurred at a residence in Jeanerette. During the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Carvalho entered the residence without permission and confronted a female with whom he had a prior relationship. During the confrontation, Carvalho damaged the woman's phone and pushed the victim against a wall. The victim fled from the residence. Deputies determined that Carvalho then took the victim's vehicle. Carvalho was booked into the parish jail and was later released on an $18,000 bond.

Ryan Romero, 32, 509 N. Robertson Street, Delcambre, LA was arrested on August 8, 2014 at 7:02 pm on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of failure to signal a lane change and texting while driving. A Franklin Police officer contacted the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office regarding a traffic stop conducted on a vehicle driving recklessly in the Patterson area. The deputy made contact with the driver, Romero, and discovered the active warrant for his arrest. The deputy transported Romero to the parish jail for booking. Romero was released on a $500 bond.

Laquandre Freeman, 17, 702 Scotty Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 8, 2014 at 8:27 pm for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store personnel that Freeman was seen concealing items in his pocket before attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. Freeman was released on a summons to appear in court on November 14, 2014.

Luis Martinez-Perez, 24, 408 Saturn Road, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on August 9, 2014 at 4:14 am for domestic abuse battery (strangulation). A deputy investigating a complaint of domestic abuse at a residence in Bayou Vista determined that Martinez-Perez and a female victim were involved in an argument when he struck the victim in the head and grabbed her by the throat. The deputy transported Martinez-Perez to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Justin Pellerin, 22, 522 Parish Road 131, Centerville, LA was arrested on August 9, 2014 at 1:48 pm on a warrant from the justice of the peace for criminal trespass. A deputy made contact with Pellerin on Parish Road 131 and discovered the active warrant for his arrest. The deputy transported Pellerin to the parish jail for booking. Pellerin was later released on a $1,000 bond.

Angel Laine, 42, 127 Francis Lane, Patterson, LA was arrested on August 9, 2014 at 5:18 pm for driving while intoxicated, third offense and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. A deputy responded to a vehicle crash in the parking lot of a business on Highway 182 in Bayou Vista. The deputy made contact with one of the drivers involved in the crash, identified as Laine, and observed several indicators of impairment including the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Laine performed poorly on the field sobriety test and later registered a 0.240g% blood alcohol concentration. The deputy transported Laine to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Steven Legnon, 21, 130 Legnon Court, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 9, 2014 at 11:19 pm for simple criminal damage to property. A deputy responded to a complaint of criminal damage to property that occurred at a business on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned from the complainant that Legnon damaged a cell phone during an argument. Legnon came to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office in Morgan City in reference to the investigation and was subsequently arrested. The deputy transported Legnon to the parish jail for booking. Legnon was later released on a summons to appear in court on November 14, 2014.

Jarret Cortez, 26, 249 Vivian Street, Bayou L'Ourse, LA was arrested on August 10, 2014 at 12:18 pm on the following charges:
- Aggravated assault with a firearm (in the presence of a child)
- Possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies
- Illegal carrying of weapons
- Disturbing the peace
Deputies responded to a report of a subject entering a residence on Yellow Bayou Road in Centerville and brandishing a gun. Upon arrival, deputies detained Cortez and located a handgun where he had been seated. During the course of the investigation, deputies determined that Cortez went to the residence because of a domestic dispute. While at the residence, Cortez brandished the weapon at three subjects. Deputies transported Cortez to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Derick Brown, 21, 404 Main Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 10, 2014 at 1:15 pm for theft.

Jokierra Freeman, 19, 152 St. Joseph Lane, Franklin, LA was arrested on August 10, 2014 at 1:15 pm for theft.

A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned from store personnel that Brown and Freeman were seen taking items from the shelves of the store and attempting to return them for a refund at the customer service desk. Brown and Freeman were released on summons to appear in court on November 14, 2014.

Tia Campbell, 41, 527 Egle Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 10, 2014 at 3:31 pm for theft.

Brian Johnson, 52, 402 Halsey Street Apt. #7, Morgan City, LA was arrested on August 10, 2014 at 2:59 pm for theft and remaining where forbidden.

A deputy responding to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista received information that one of two suspected shoplifters was attempting to leave the area. The deputy located and detained a male subject who was walking in the area. The subject, identified as Johnson, matched a description provided by store personnel. During the course of the investigation, the deputy observed Johnson and a female subject, identified as Campbell, on video surveillance taking items from packaging and concealing them inside a bag. Campbell was released on a summons to appear in court on November 14, 2014. Johnson was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Dalaina Rentrop, 21, 331 Highway 663, Morgan City, LA was arrested on august 10, 2014 at 4:36 pm for disturbing the peace (intoxicated). A deputy responded to a complaint of an intoxicated subject causing a disturbance at a business in Amelia. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Rentrop and observed her to be highly intoxicated. Rentrop refused to leave the business. While speaking with the deputy, Rentrop used profanity. She also swung her arms repeatedly nearly striking other subjects nearby. Rentrop was placed under arrest. Because of her intoxicated condition, the deputy transported Rentrop to a local hospital. While there, she attempted to kick medical personnel. She was later transported to the parish jail for booking. Bail is set at $500.
