According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 47 complaints and reports the following arrests:
On August 21, 2014 at 10:17 am, five inmates incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Jail were charged with the following offenses:
Alton Kemp, 27, Centerville, is charged with 2 counts simple battery.
Shane Daniels, 28, Franklin, is charged with 2 counts aggravated battery.
Courtney Richardson, 29, Franklin, is charged with aggravated battery and simple battery.
Javante Jackson, 19, Franklin, is charged with 2 counts simple battery.
Joseph Cagnolatti, 19, Morgan City, is charged with 2 counts simple battery.
Deputies began an investigation into an altercation that occurred in a dorm on August 16, 2014 during a cleaning detail. A deputy on guard at the dorm responded to the altercation, calling additional deputies to the location. Upon entering the dorm, deputies located two inmates with injuries. The 19-year-old and 38-year-old victims were treated by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital.
During the course of the investigation, deputies identified Kemp, Jackson, and Cagnolatti as the inmates who struck the victims with their fists repeatedly. Daniels and Richardson broke a mop handle located in the dorm during the cleaning detail and also struck the victims. The 38-year-old victim sustained a broken arm. Both inmates were later released from the hospital and remain incarcerated.
Andre A. Brown, 33, 194 Easy Street, Franklin, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 11:04 a.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, speeding, and failure to honor written promise to appear. Brown, who was incarcerated at the parish jail, was charged on the active warrant. No bond is set.
Nicole A. St. Germaine, 38, 322 Aucoin Street, Morgan City, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 1:06 p.m. on a warrant for probation violation. St. Germaine was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center by Jeanerette Police on the warrant. No bond is set.
Leann N. Jones, 24, 214 Jones Street, Apt. #6, Berwick, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 1:57 p.m. on a warrant from Lafayette Parish for failure to appear. While booking Jones at the parish jail, a deputy discovered the active warrant. No bond is set.
Nathaniel Paul, 22, 719 5th Street, Morgan City, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 7:26 p.m. on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of direct contempt, operating a vehicle with improper headlamps, and failure to honor written promise to appear. During booking at the parish jail, a deputy learned of the active warrant. No bond is set.
Jamal Gibson, 27, 115 Headland Street, Morgan City, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 7:29 p.m. on a warrant for possession of Schedule I drugs. During booking at the parish jail, a deputy learned of the active warrant. No bond is set.
Orion P. McCranie, 34, 460 Wilson Street, Berwick, LA was arrested on August 22, 2014 at 1:38 a.m. for simple criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace, and threatening a public official. A deputy responded to a request to remove a subject from a bar on Highway 182 in Bayou Vista. Upon gathering statements from witnesses, the deputy determined that McCranie was causing a disturbance at the business by yelling and refusing to the leave the location. During the disturbance, McCranie threw a patron's cell phone against a wall damaging it. While transporting him to the parish jail, McCranie used racial slurs and made threats towards the deputy. Bail is set at $2,000.
Gary Peters, 35, 211 Jones Road # 1, Four Corners, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 8:47 pm on the following charges:
-Improper lane usage
-Obstruction of justice
-Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
-Transactions involving drug proceeds
-No drivers license on person
-No seat belt
-Possession of drug paraphernalia
Detectives of the St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division observed a pick-up cross the center line of Hwy 318 several times and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the truck sped up and was observed throw a small plastic bag out of the vehicle's window. The driver then stopped the vehicle on Highway 668.
Detectives made contact with the driver, identified as Peters. During the course of the investigation, detectives located marijuana and cash inside the vehicle.
The bag thrown from the vehicle were recovered and found to contain marijuana. The vehicle and cash was seized pending forfeiture. Detectives believe the money was derived from illegal drug sales and that the truck was used to sell illegal drugs. Peters was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Misty Lafleur, 33, 613 Kelly Drive, Patterson, was arrested on August 21, 2014 at 10:14 pm on warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives conducting a traffic stop made contact with a passenger in the vehicle identified as Lafleur. After speaking with Lafleur, she was released from the traffic stop and left the location.
As the investigation continued, detectives obtained a search warrant and located several glass pipes and straws consistent with methamphetamine use in Lafleur's purse that she left inside the vehicle.
A warrant was issued for Lafleur's arrest. Detectives later located her at a residence in Patterson. Lafleur was transported to the parish jail for booking. She was later released on a $1,500 bond.
