According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, over the last 24 hour reporting period, the Sheriff's Office responded to 40 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Tony A. Kaufman, 20, 113 Carriage Cove Lane, Franklin, was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 9:33 a.m. for disturbing the peace (intoxicated).
A deputy responded to a traffic incident on Highway 182 in the Franklin area. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a vehicle parked partially in a ditch just off the roadway. The deputy made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Kaufman. While speaking with Kaufman, the deputy observed multiple signs that he was intoxicated. The deputy transported Kaufman to the parish jail for booking. Kaufman was later released on a summons to appear in court on October 13, 2014.
Leah R. Bourgeois, 37, 101 Cane Street Apt. #3, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm for trespassing.
Chase P. Bertrand, 28, 101 Cane Street Apt. #3, Bayou Vista, was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 1 p.m. for trespassing and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of disturbing the peace (fighting).
A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle trespassing just off of Zenor Road in Patterson. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a pick-up truck situated off of the roadway in gear with the engine running. The deputy observed two subjects inside the vehicle and made contact with Bourgeois and Bertrand. The deputy observed both subjects to be incoherent. Bourgeois and Bertrand were transported to a local hospital treatment and later released. The deputy issued both subjects a summons to appear in court on October 13, 2014.
Tyler Duncan, 18, 149 Chauvin Lane, Franklin, was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 3:46 p.m. on a warrant for theft.
A deputy patrolling Chitimacha Trail in Charenton made contact with Duncan who was wanted on the warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation into the theft of a bicycle. The deputy transported Duncan to the parish jail for booking. He was later released on a summons to appear in court on October 13, 2014.
Rashyra Brent, 20, 200 Lockley Street, Baldwin, was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 5:40 p.m. on a warrant for domestic abuse battery and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
A deputy located Brent at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office in Franklin on the warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation into a domestic abuse case that occurred at a residence on Eves Street in Sorrel. The deputy assigned to the case discovered that Brent purposefully drove her vehicle into another vehicle. The deputy also learned that Brent struck a male victim repeatedly during an argument. The deputy transported Brent to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
Marquis Brown, 21, 115 Jones Road #2, Jeanerette, was arrested on July 17, 2014 at 9:19 p.m. for no drivers license, a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of no drivers license, failure to stop, and failure to honor written promise to appear. Brown was also charged on a warrant from Jeanerette for failure to appear for committing the offense of theft of goods.
A deputy patrolling the Jeanerette area responded to a vehicle crash at a business on Highway 90 Frontage Road. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a pick-up truck that broke through the outside wall of the establishment. The deputy made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Brown, and discovered that he was driving without a license. During the course of the investigation, Brown told the deputy that his brakes were not functioning as he turned into the parking lot of the business which caused him to crash into the wall. Brown was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released. He was then transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
