According to St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, during the last 24 hour reporting period the Sheriff's Office responded to 36 complaints and reports the following arrests:
Melvin Richard, III, 29, 104 Little Flower Lane, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on June 27, 2013 at 12:44 pm for five counts unauthorized use of an access card and on a warrant from Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office for forgery and theft.
Crystal Marie Leal, 29, 104 Little Flower Lane, Bayou Vista, LA was arrested on June 27, 2013 at 1:08 pm for theft and principal to unauthorized use of an access card.
The SMPSO warrant stems from an investigation into a report of a stolen credit card on which unauthorized charges were made at a retail store in Bayou Vista. The card was reported stolen from the victim's home in Berwick. During the course of the investigation, Leal was developed as the subject who took the card from the victim. The detective assigned to the case used security surveillance video to identify Richard as the subject who used the card without permission. A deputy located Richard at his residence on the warrant. Leal was also located at her residence. Richard and Leal were both transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
Kerry L. Washington, 51, 315 Grout Street, Patterson, LA was arrested on June 28, 2013 at 4:40 am on a warrant for failure to comply with the academy of training skills program and on a warrant from Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office failure to appear on the charges of issuing worthless checks. While patrolling the Amelia area, a deputy observed a subject walking on Highway 182. Upon speaking with the subject, identified as Washington, the deputy learned of the warrants for his arrest. Washington was transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
