Jose Palacios, 21, 7100 Highway 182 Morgan City, LA was arrested on April 24, 2013 at 1:57 pm for theft of goods. A deputy responded to Walmart in Bayou Vista, LA in reference to a complaint of shoplifting. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from security personnel that Palacios was observed taking items from the packaging and placing the items in his pockets. Palacios then attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. He was released on a summons to appear in court on July 5, 2013.
Joseph Young, III, 44, 300 Tiffany Drive Patterson, LA was arrested on April 24, 2013 at 11:55 pm on the following charges:
Simple obstruction of a highway of commerce
Reckless operation of a vehicle
Exceeding the maximum speed limit
Aggravated flight from an officer
Illegal possession of stolen things
Hit and run driving
Resisting an officer
Resisting an officer with force
Battery of a police officer
Disturbing the peace by using foul language
Failure to signal
A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a vehicle parked in the roadway on James Street. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver made eye contact with the deputy and accelerated the vehicle driving away from the scene. Activating his lights and siren, the deputy followed the vehicle onto Highway 182 and onto the Greenwood overpass where the suspect vehicle reached a high rate of speed exceeding the posted speed limit. The driver of the suspect vehicle then braked aggressively causing the deputy's unit to strike the suspect vehicle. The deputy continued to follow the suspect driver on Highway 182, onto James Street, and then onto Grace Street. The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Young, then exited the moving vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The still moving vehicle rolled onto a property on Grace Street where it came to a stop. After a short foot pursuit, Young was apprehended. While being taken into custody, Young struck the deputy. During the investigation, the deputy discovered that the vehicle Young drove was reported stolen in Lafayette, LA. Young was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center. He was later transported to the parish jail for booking and incarceration. No bond is set.
