The St. Martinville City Council has tabled a motion to rename Randolph Street to Willie Francis Drive, according to The Teche News.
Willie Francis was a St. Martinville teen convicted in the 1940s of the first-degree murder of a St. Martinville pharmacist.
Francis survived the first execution, which took place in St. Martinville because the electric chair used at the time traveled around the state for executions.
After a lengthy appeals process that ended at the U.S. Supreme Court, Francis was eventually executed a second time and became the only person in U.S. history to be executed twice.
It's still unknown when the City Council will reconsider the action to rename the street. Check back with KATC for updates.
