Some of the dogs rescued in an alleged Breaux Bridge dogfighting ring last month are now recovering in Missouri.
KSDK in St. Louis reported in early March that seven of the 49 dogs from St. Martin Parish were transported from Louisiana to a shelter called Stray Rescue.
In the station's interview with an employee of the rescue shelter, it was revealed that the animals were sent out-of-state because of safety concerns.
"Many of them have scars, and all of them are very thin. They are receiving medical care and rehabilitation and will eventually be available for adoption," the station reported.
"They had threats of the dogs getting stolen again, and apparently the first time this person was arrested, his family and friends had actually broken into the facility to steal the dogs," Jennie Foster said.
KSDK also said that some of the other dogs from the bust were sent to other states as well.
