We have a progress report from Mike Magnoli: He was in St. Martin Parish today to get an assessment of the water levels. He gets answers from locals about how they feel as this situation continues to evolve.
2 weeks ago Mitch Mequit of Henderson-- bait shop owner, landlord and tour guide--took us on his boat to see the early stages of the coming flood. Now we're back in the Butte LaRose canal and indeed we see the water's up, but not as much as we first feared.
Mitch tells KATC: "At first they said 29 now they're at 24 24-5 and for the business owners, for the homeowners and people who have camps that's a sigh of relief."
All along Mitch's dock, houseboats you can rent for a little weekend vacation- Mitch says since the media coverage of the flood began there have been a lot of cancellations, but we found one party telling us a little high water wasn't going to ruin their good time.
House boat renter/Loretta Leger: "We weren't scared so we came anyway."
