St. Martin moves to reorganize Breaux Bridge schools

The St. Martin Parish School Board says it want the school district to continue developing its plan for the reorganization of its Breaux Bridge schools, according to Superintendent Lottie Beebe.

"The Breaux Bridge Elementary School and the Breaux Bridge Primary School will be two separate schools, just sharing a single location," Beebe said. "They will be independent campuses."

Under the proposed reorganization, the current Breaux Bridge Elementary campus would be repurposed for other programs. Breaux Bridge Primary would become a Pre-K through 2nd grade school, while the new Breaux Bridge Elementary would cater to 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.

Sixth graders would go to Breaux Bridge Junior High, which would handle students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

The board voted Wednesday evening to allow the district to continue developing a working schematic for the Breaux Bridge Primary School and Breaux Bridge Elementary School campus, with hopes that it will come to fruition before the 2015-2016 school year.

Beebe said the reorganization would bring the Breaux Bridge schools in line with schools in Cecilia and St. Martin, where a similar structure has already been introduced.
