A towering project underway in St. Martinville as the St. Martin De Tours Catholic Church is undergoing interior and exterior renovations.
These improvements are to repair damages the church has endured over the years but also to get ready for the 250th anniversary of the parish.
Renovations are being done to the floors, walls, the steeple, the bells and the entire bell tower roof. The building dates back to the 1830's so most of its structure has to be repaired.
Father Rusty Richard says the goal is to make the church look beautiful while also preserving the churches history. He's most excited about controlling the bells from his phone or a remote control and having them ring for multiple events.
"The community misses the bells. They ring for Christmas they ring for weddings, they ring for Easter and other joyous occasions and here in the town square they strike on the hour, so we're all missing that," said Richard.
The church has been without bells for almost a year now but all renovations are expected to be complete in about three months.
