OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish Council has voted 6-5 to move toward reinstating an appointed, seven-member airport authority to oversee operations of the parish airport.

Council Chairman Wayne Ardoin (AHR'-dwahn) cast the deciding vote on the issue, which was opposed by Parish President Bill Fontenot.

Ardoin said the ordinance will be presented at the council's June meeting when it will choose members of the authority.

The airport is northwest of Opelousas on property owned by the parish government.

The Advocate reports the airport authority oversaw operation of the airport until 2010, when the council voted to allow the executive branch, headed by the parish president, to dictate the operation of the facility.
