The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office hosted their annual Christmas toy giveaway providing gifts to 145 families representing 397 children.
Administrative Assistant, Lillian Savoy has organized the event for the past six years. "We were able to help 20 children that first year, and it has just grown and grown," said Savoy.
The children visited with Santa Claus, while the gifts were presented to the parents so they could be placed under the tree for Christmas morning.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated, "We hand pick underprivileged families to distribute the toys to. The event wouldn't be possible without partnering with the United States Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program, and leadership and hard work of Administrative Assistant, Lillian Savoy, and deputies Johnny Young and Lisa Gaudet."
Savoy said, "Sheriff Guidroz often encounters families at their worst, and as a result he is well aware of the level of poverty and need in this parish, one of the poorest in one of nation's poorest states.
