St. Landry seniors learn how to avoid becoming victims

Courtesy of the Opelousas Police Department (OPD), hundreds of senior citizens from St. Landry Parish converged on the Opelousas Civic Center to learn about ways to preserve their health and well being, particularly about how to avoid being taken advantage of by predatory scammers.

During Wednesday's Elderly Awareness Program, OPD Chief Perry Gallow informed elderly participants about the tactics used by such fraudsters and how to prevent becoming a victim.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., also offered seniors information about medicare and health issues. Entertainment was provided by Geno Delafousse and French Rocking Boogie.
