St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz announced today Department Investigators have new equipment to use in their fight against crime in St. Landry Parish. Under a grant from the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, the department has purchased over $12,000 dollars in specialized forensic equipment. The equipment includes high resolution digital still cameras, digital video cameras, forensic 'blue' lights, fingerprint fuming kits, metal detectors and trace evidence vacuums.
Sheriff Guidroz said, "This grant provides significant support for crime scene investigations. Improvements in crime scene processing will result in improved identification of offenders, increased arrest rates for theft and burglary and major crimes against persons. The citizens of the parish will benefit since improved crime scene processing and increased arrest rates have the long term effect of stabilizing and reducing insurance rates for citizens and businesses."
Guidroz said, "This grant is one of a number of funded initiatives the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department has been successful with this year. More news on other funded activities will be released in the near future", said Guidroz.
