St. Landry Parish flood update

The assessment of flood damage will continue as St. Landry parish is anticipating more rain.

St. Landry Parish road crews will be out through the weekend assessing damage and addressing road problems caused by flooding. St. Landry Parish Government staff will be answering phones in the office Saturday and Sunday 8:00am - 6:00pm. 337-948-3688.

Today, January 11, 2013, there was a 2-3 foot rise in flood waters in some areas of the parish. The water draining from the North is passing through the parish slowly, which is causing an already saturated ground to flood. "Yesterday there was a couple dozen flooded homes and today that number is growing," says Parish President Bill Fontenot.

There are at least 70 impassable roads in the parish of St. Landry.

Residents should continue to contact the office with reports of flood damage.
