Tonight, a plea from two mothers asking Opelousas residents to put an end to gun violence.
Laura Harrison, the mother of 32 year-old Eric Harrison, who was allegedly shot and killed by Joshua Goodley two weeks ago near Planters and Hattisburg Streets, met with the mother of her son's accused killer.
Harrison says instead of fighting back with anger, she says she wanted to embrace Latriva Goodley because she's also lost a son.
"If I can help one, just one person then I've done what I'm supposed to do. I wish they would get rid of the guns and stop all the fighting on Facebook. It's not going to bring my son back," Harrison said.
Goodley says she pushed for the meeting because she wanted to tell Harrison she was sorry for what happened.
"We just want everyone to understand that it's hard, but fair. It's hard on my behalf and hers, but it's so great to know we are able to come together. Being embraced by her, and me embracing her, makes me feel so much better," Goodley said.
According to Opelousas Police Department, the shooting was the result of an ongoing feud between Goodley and Harrison.
The woman say from this moment forward, they are putting their differences aside.
"If anyone has any retaliation in them, please stop it now. It is not worth it. We're parents together, and we're going to stick this out together. All the fighting and killing won't help anything," Goodley said.
According to the police department, there were 3 gun related deaths last year.
Harrison's death is the first gun related death in the city of Opelousas this year.
