On Wednesday morning, St. Landry Sheriff Deputies began an intense manhunt in the Port Barre area; efforts to find a convicted sex offender continued into Wednesday night.
The Sheriff's Office is looking for Glenn Craig III, in his twenties, Craig is already a known man to law enforcement
"He was convicted of sexual crimes with a child back in 2002-2003,"said Sheriff Bobby Guidroz of St. Landry Parish.
The Sheriff explained that his deputies went to Craig's house Wednesday morning with an arrest warrant after Craig's live-in girlfriend reported that he held her at gunpoint, forced her to have sex, then beat her. According to the Sheriff, Craig fled into the woods when deputies confronted him about the charges he was facing.
Deputies in SWAT gear were searching the woods near Craig's home, eyewitnesses who came to the area to fish, looked on as the teams swept through the area with weapons drawn.
The Sheriff says the suspect is not armed, but could be a risk to children. He was last seen wearing a black tee shirt and jeans.
