St. Landry Man Arrested For Drugs

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, Narcotics Detectives and Officers with the Opelousas Police Department conducted a joint operation during which they seized approximately 35 lbs of Marijuana, several thousand dollars in US Currency, drug paraphernalia and made one arrest.

According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz; his Narcotics Detectives received information from Opelousas Police Department Officers indicating that they purchased several pounds of Marijuana from David Fontenot. The officers furthered their investigation and discovered that Fontenot may live at a residence in Royal Gardens Subdivision. The officers then contacted the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Detectives.

The two departments went to the residence and located a small quantity of Marijuana, paraphernalia and a gun. The officers then continued their investigation and discovered that Fontenot was renting a residence on Hwy. 190. The officers went to the Opelousas Police Department and obtained consent to search the residence. The Officers then escorted Fontenot to his residence and he led them to over thirty pounds of Marijuana, thirty Lortabs, several bags of Hydroponic Marijuana and approximately $2,500.00 in US Currency. The approximate street value of the drugs was $35,000.00.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office will be booking the suspect on the following charges:

1. Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana)
2. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
3. Monies Derived from Drug Transactions
