St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz is pleased to announce the D.A.R.E. graduation of 160 students at Central Middle School in Eunice.

D.A.R.E. Instructor Captain Cheyne Platt said, "The students undergo a 12 week program. They are given lessons that include topics such as peer pressure, ways to say "NO", stranger danger, feelings, and consequences."

"The emphasis of the program is to assist students to recognize and resist the many pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol and drugs. We try to focus on feelings related to self-esteem, communication skills, along with decision-making and positive alternatives to drug abuse behavior," Platt added.

Nearly 1,000 St. Landry Parish 5th graders will graduate from the D.A.R.E. program this year.
