OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish School Board has voted in favor of transferring all students now attending an Opelousas elementary school deemed academically unacceptable to a nearby campus where state performance scores are higher.
According to the proposal approved Thursday, 196 Creswell Elementary students are scheduled to attend Park Vista Elementary, for the 2013-14 school year.
The Advocate reports state Department of Education officials indicated earlier this year that they planned to close Creswell, whose state test scores were rated academically unacceptable for four consecutive years.
Included in the proposal are plans that will convert the present Creswell campus next year into a parish-wide accelerated recovery program for fifth-grade students who have been retained at least once.
