On June 24th, someone will win the 2012 St. Jude Dream Home. For 50 years, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been saving the lives of children. Ben Leblanc, Brennan Bergeron and Brook Dupuis are all Acadiana residents and patients of St. Jude. Ben was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia or ALL when he was six. Brennan also had ALL, and he was diagnosed just before his fourth birthday. Brook's mom thought he had sinus trouble when he was 14 until an MRI revealed a mass on his brain that turned out to be meduloblastoma. He underwent three brain surgeries and intense chemo and radiation therapy.
Today, they are all college students and all bear tattoos of the St. Jude logo, including their patient number. The describe St. Jude as a second home and both Brennan and Brook are part of the Life Studies the hospital is conducting to see how treatment affects these children long term. They are forever grateful for the life St. Jude has given them and thankful for the generosity of Acadiana as it continues to support projects like the Dream Home.
