The St. James Parish School Board will seek federal funding to help subsidize telecommunications and Internet services for the parish's public schools.
The Advocate reports parish Schools Technology Administrator Rickie Boudwin asked the school board on Tuesday to approve a resolution authorizing the move in time for the 2013-14 school year.
Boudwin said the district is responsible for $130,000, or 17 percent, of the federal government's yearly assessed cost of services for the school district's telecommunications.
The federal government's "E-rate" discount program will save the parish $644,916 annually.
