GREENSBURG, La. (AP) - Sheriff Nat Williams has promised the St. Helena Parish Police Jury that bars and clubs will have to stop selling alcohol at 1 a.m. and be closed by 2 a.m. from now on.
The Advocate reports Williams' pledge to enforce the parish's closing-time ordinances came after he asked the parish governing body Tuesday night to help define what constitutes a bar and what constitutes a restaurant.
The sheriff reminded the jurors that parish liquor licenses only require closure at specific times.
Parish attorney Clifton Speed said St. Helena Parish liquor licenses require businesses to stop selling alcohol at 1 a.m.
Williams said that since the rule already was in place, he would "shut every bar down at 2 a.m. beginning February 1."
