A member of the St. Edmund Catholic School advisory council in Eunice is asked to resign in the wake of criminal charges. The incident first happened in February at a tanning salon in Lafayette.
Parents at St. Edmund Catholic School said they were surprised to hear a member of their school's advisory board...John David Clause... had been arrested under the peeping tom statute.
Brandie Savoy said, "that's pretty terrible, if we can't trust these guys around adults in the neighborhood then how are we going to trust him around kids."
Police reports show the victim said she was in her tanning room when she possibly noticed a man looking at her over the wall. Clause was spray tanning and allegedly climbed a towel rack to peer over the wall into the tanning bed next door. Clause's attorney, Thomas Guilbeau, said his client is not guilty of being a peeping tom.
Guilbeau said, " he was looking at a ceiling tile. He thought maybe a camera was looking at him."
Guilbeau says it was just bad timing and he was never trying to spy on anyone.
"He used bad judgement," he explained. "He never saw her without her clothes on."
Clause's charges were later reduced to criminal mischief. Clause is on misdemeanor probation for 24 months. He is due back in court to make sure he's adhering to his probation. The pastor at St. Edmund said he asked for Cause's resignation and Clause did so peacefully.
