ST. AMANT, La. (AP) - A bridge on Harry Savoy Road in St. Amant will be closed for an estimated three weeks while work crews replace wooden pilings supporting the structure.
Lester Kenyon, a spokesman for Ascension Parish government, says the bridge spanning White Cypress Canal southwest of Butch Gore Park was closed Wednesday so Chambers Construction Co. could begin the project.
Kenyon says the repairs, expected to cost $65,770, were ordered after a state Department of Transportation and Development inspection last month revealed the pilings needed to be replaced.
The Advocate reports that motorists can use La. 431 as an alternative route while the work is done.
