KENNER, La. (AP) - The man who takes over the Gulf oil spill
claims process on Monday says spill victims won't have to submit
new documentation if they have a claim pending, but they must
submit new applications.
Ken Feinberg said Wednesday in suburban New Orleans that the new
application can be filed online or at one of 35 claims offices in
the Gulf region. Feinberg says a new application is needed to
facilitate quick, emergency payments while long-term damages are
determined.
Feinberg says emergency money will be available quickly for
those with documented claims: in 48 hours for individuals; seven
days for businesses. Those accepting the initial emergency payments
won't give up the right to sue BP. Those who accept final,
long-term payments will forfeit the right to sue.
