BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a special five-day shrimp season will open at 6 a.m. April 18 in some state waters.
It says biologists have found marketable shrimp from the eastern shore of Bayou Grand Caillou to the western shore of Vermilion. Outside waters in that area will reopen at the same time.
The inside waters will close at 6 a.m. April 23; the outside waters are open until further notice.
Details and a map are at the department's website.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission will set opening dates for the spring inshore season on May 5.
The department says preliminary data shows that, last year, shrimpers caught 110.2 million pounds with a dockside value of $117.3 million.
