Sparks flew at Wednesday night's Lafayette Parish School Board meeting. Board member Rae Trahan (District 9) fired back at Lafayette newspaper, "The Indpendent" after it ran an article called "Absent Minded." The cover story accused Trahan of not participating in school board business and not supporting schools in her district, specifically Youngsville schools.
Trahan defended herself at the end of the meeting, stating that almost all of her absences are at special meetings or workshops, which are held during business hours when she has to run her shop in Youngsville. She said she has only missed two regular school board meetings this year.
As for Youngsville schools, she said she wants to see money spent there to improve the schools, but needs to know a plan on where the money will go before voting for a bond measure to fund improvements.
"It's all smoke and mirrors, it's a effort to discredit me because my questions are a little too accurate, a little to true to the heart of the issue and they think that by doing this they will discredit me and shut me up," said Trahan after the meeting.
KATC is working to get to the bottom of this story, and will have more Thursday.
