According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Karen has formed in Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall in southeast Louisiana late Saturday evening.
In anticipation of the tropical storm, Gov. Bobby Jindal has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard, while authorities are recommending that people in the area prepare for strong winds, heavy rains and flooding by gathering these personal safety items:
