SORRENTO, La. (AP) - The Sorrento Town Council has approved an 11 percent monthly price increase for residents whose garbage is collected by Allied Waste Services.
Effective Aug. 1, Allied Waste's monthly collection fee will increase from $18 to $20 per household.
The Advocate report the council approved the increase Tuesday.
Councilmen Milton Vicknair, Randy Anny, Marvin Martin and John Wright approved the increase after Allied Waste's Karla Swacker said fuel costs had forced the company to increase prices by $1.32 for each household per month as part of its new annual contract with the town.
The council decided to raise the fee to $20 to cover town administrative costs and any customers who do not pay their bills on time.
Town Clerk Paige Robert said Allied Waste serves about 400 customers in Sorrento.
