The body of Milton soldier Steven Dupont is now in Lafayette. Specialist Steven Dupont was killed in Afghanistan last week.
His casket was escorted from the airport today to Martin and Castille funeral home Monday morning.
Military, police, firefighters, family and friends honored the 20-year-old in a procession through Lafayette.
Retired Army Sergeant Adam Mouton and retired Navy pilot Joe Konecni were among those who came to pay their respects, although they did not know Dupont personally.
"To show my appreciation for the military men that are in battle, and I need to honor them. This gentleman paid everything, a lot more than I did," says Konecni.
They say as fellow men in uniform they understand what it is like to put their lives on the line-- but they were lucky enough to still be here today.
"You're willing to sign a blank check to the country, including your life if that's what it takes, we go where they send us, we don't question, we give up some of our rights so everybody else can enjoy their rights," says Mouton.
