SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The air around the entrance to Government Plaza may be a little clearer if a Caddo commissioner can push through legislation concerning smoking outside the downtown Shreveport building.
The Times reports Lindora Baker has proposed a resolution urging Shreveport to create a designated smoking area in the back of the patio area near the fountain on the northeast corner of the block. Commissioners will vote on the proposal when they meet Thursday.
Current law prohibits smoking within 25 feet of the entrance of any building occupied or operated by the city or parish.
Commissioners Lyndon Johnson and John Escude voted not to advance the resolution to Thursday's voting agenda.
Escude, who admitted smoking is the only habit he has left, said he never has heard complaints about the issue.
