Smoke testing of sewer system in New Iberia set for June 24 & 25

As part of the City of New Iberia's Sewer Improvements, the City will conduct smoke testing of
the Sanitary sewer system to locate any defects in sewer pipes. Testing will take place on
Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25, weather permitting. The following streets will be tested:

600 block of Louise
600/700 blocks of Mississippi
600/700 blocks of Mixon
600/700 blocks of Myrtis

Any smoke that residents may see coming from vents, manholes or holes in the ground is NON TOXIC and creates NO FIRE HAZARD. Smoke should not enter
homes. If smoke does enter a home, the resident should open doors and windows to ventilate the house, and leave the premises until the smoke dissipates. Smoke entering a home usually indicates a leak in the household plumbing, However, dry sewer traps may allow smoke to enter through drains. To eliminate this problem, residents should
run water into all drains regularly to prevent traps from drying out.
